Compelling religion statistics suggest 57 percent of Americans believe that religion is the answer to all or almost all of today’s problems. The Gallup poll first gathered demographic data and religion from Americans in 1958. At that time, 82 percent of Americans reported they believed religion could solve all or almost all current problems. Since 1958, the gap between Americans who believe that religion has the ability to solve almost all problems and Americans who believe religion is outdated has begun to close.

Will a Prayer Really Be Answered?

It depends on who you ask. Currently, 80 percent people who attend a religious institution at least once a week still believe that religion has the ability to do more than make people feel comfort and give people guidance. These individuals believe that it can actually solve problems. For them, a seemingly answered prayer is nothing short of a sign that some higher force does play an active role governing our lives, that religion can have an enormous impact.
Conversely, 30 percent of Americans view religion as largely superfluous. They view prayer and solving today’s problems as being only loosely related, if  they are related at all. The crowd that does not view religion as particularly important does not have poor moral character, per se. It is highly conceivable that increased levels of globalization and decreased communal involvement contribute to the view that religion does not contribute to solving problems as much as more academic approaches to problem solving.

A Changing Nation With Changing Demographics and Beliefs

It’s no secret that religion problems exist across the world. Similarly, it’s not particularly surprising that many Americans have changed their beliefs since year 1958 about religion and many other things. However, the most surprising results of the poll were religion statistics that suggested a lack

of strong community in numerous parts of the United States.
Religion is often used to solve almost all of today’s problems on a smaller scale to some extent. There is no evidence to suggest that Americans who strongly believe in the power of religion are behind the times. Numerous faith-based groups like the Universal Life Church Monastery continue to spread positive messages about religion and community across the country.
