Chakras play an important part in Hinduism and several other Indian religions. These seven points on the body are considered to be areas of high spiritual and physical energy. According to ancient teachings, it is crucial for all people to figure out how to align and balance their chakras. Imbalance can lead to spiritual and physical complications, including poor health and feelings of unwellness. If you are unfamiliar with how to best align your chakras, now is the time to learn a few simple ways to see success.
Understanding the Chakras
Before you can balance the chakras, you need to identify where each one is on your body. This is a simple task, as all seven sit in a vertical line beginning at the top of the skull and continuing down to the base of the spine. Each is said to control the energies associated with the body parts it is located near. The root chakra, for example, is found at the base of the spine and is said to be connected with the feeling of being grounded, as well as kidney and adrenal health.
The chakras of the body can be broken down as such:
- Root – found at the base of the spine
- Sacral – located below the belly button
- Navel – located above the belly button
- Heart – found in the chest
- Throat – located in the throat
- Third-Eye – found between the eyebrows
- Crown – located on the top of the skull
Addressing an Imbalance
While a number of practices teach you how to align all of your chakras, you may want to address an imbalance in a particular region. The first step toward achieving this goal is pinpointing exactly where you feel there is a problem. If you have been experiencing many nervous feelings in your gut, then you may want to work on balancing your navel chakra. The idea is that you are “opening” and “closing” your chakras when you work on them. You want to strike balance, rather than leaning toward too open or too closed.
Exercise
One of the best ways to find balance is through appropriate exercises. Each chakra will have a different series of movements related to opening and closing it. For the root chakra, you may find yoga is helpful in finding your balance. Engaging in the “warrior pose” during your next yoga session may be able to assist you with feeling more grounded and discovering the balance that your root chakra needs.
Diet
Another option to help you find balance is adjusting your diet. Certain foods and drinks can be beneficial to your feelings of wellness when it comes to spiritual or physical imbalance. When you are attempting to balance your throat chakra, for example, you may find drinking herbal teas containing lemon and ginger to be helpful. On the physical side, the ginger and lemon in the tea cleanse your throat of bacteria and other threats. Spiritually, the tea can provide comfort and help you feel a sense of overall wellness.
Scent
Finally, consider various essential oils and candle scents. Each point on the body has a different scent associated with balancing it. For the heart chakra, consider applying bergamot, rose or thyme oils to your chest. The scents will soothe your senses and help your heart chakra discover the right balance for your emotional wellness. Look into the scents associated with each point on the body to deliver the best results from your efforts.
Though the history behind the chakras is long and complicated, learning how to balance your own does not have to be a complex endeavor. Identify each of the seven points on your body and begin the journey to understanding how you can best balance your physical and spiritual wellness.
