Creating a Spiritual Self-Care Routine

In the last few years, there have been endless blog posts and social media stories about the importance of having a self-care routine. However, a large chunk of the information shared centers on taking care of yourself in a direct way. From hot baths with essential oils to face masks, these suggestions are meant to help you relax by tackling the physical sides of stress. In truth, you must also focus on how to care for yourself in a spiritual way. Use this guide for creating a spiritual self-care routine you can follow with ease.

Find the Time

Before you can start to create specific actions meant to heal yourself on a spiritual level, you need to carve out time in your schedule. For some, this is going to be quite difficult. If you work long hours, have a family to provide for, or are just overwhelmed with other responsibilities, you may have to really think about what time works best. Your ultimate goal should be to make your self-care actions a part of your daily routine, but you will likely need to build to that objective over time.

Create Some Lists

After you’ve selected a time, you want to start making lists. Writing a list is said to be one of the best ways to focus your mind and tackle tasks in a direct way. For this purpose, the lists you write should be about the areas where you feel most spiritually unwell. Everyone’s spiritual journey looks different. In order for you to devise a healing strategy, you want to be sure that you are thinking about the biggest obstacles you’re likely to face along the way.

For example, you might feel a sense of loneliness within. If this is the case, your strategy should include ways to connect with others. Weekly rituals like calling loved ones or walking around your block and greeting neighbors are easy activities that can have a direct impact on the problem you’re struggling with. Basically, use the lists you create as a way of making a map for the rest of your routine.

Be Physical

Unlike physical self-care tactics, which are all about being less active, your goals are a bit different with spiritual matters. Many people find that engaging with certain exercises or sitting in specific positions can be invigorating to the mind, body, and soul. This is the case with yoga, which has been practiced for health and spiritual purposes across the world for thousands of years. By getting in touch with your body through each movement, you start to discover the parts of you that are hidden away within.

Meditation is also a way of connecting to yourself on a higher plane of existence through physicality. Those who participate in activities like transcendental meditation will sit in a chair with their feet on the floor because it grounds them as they search inside themselves. Both involved activities like yoga and more relaxed ones like meditation can help immensely with your sense of spiritual wellness.

Chat With Yourself

People will often feel a sense of spiritual dread when they do not have a strong connection to themselves. Though it may feel odd at first, having a chat with yourself can be an amazing way to get a feel for what’s happening within. Sit in front of a mirror and start talking about whatever comes up. The more you do this, the more you’ll feel bubbling to the surface. Several studies have suggested that being kind to yourself during these “conversations” can have a positive impact on your confidence and sense of contentment.

Though creating a spiritual self-care routine might take time, it is worth the effort. Find a time in your schedule for simple activities like a conversation with yourself or some meditation and see how it helps you feel connected.
